About Dorothy Fields
Librettist and lyricist Dorothy Fields was one of the most successful female writers of "standard" popular songs, and the first woman to be elected to the Songwriters Hall of Fame. A stellar list of her collaborators includes Jerome Kern, Jimmy McHugh, Harold Arlen, and Cy Coleman. With McHugh, Fields wrote the enduring classics "On the Sunny Side of the Street" and "Exactly Like You" for The International Revue (1930). The pair also collaborated on several Hollywood movies, most notably Every Night at Eight, which included the favorite "I’m in the Mood for Love." In 1935, she began working with Jerome Kern, and won an Academy Award for Swing Time. Often regarded as Kern’s finest score, it included the timeless "A Fine Romance." ~ Rovi Staff
