Elaine Paige

About Elaine Paige

Actress and singer Elaine Paige appeared in several stage musicals in the '60s and '70s, including HAIR, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, and GREASE, before her 1978 breakthrough title role in EVITA. Although Julie Covington sung the part on the original cast album, scoring a U.K. Number One with "Don’t Cry for Me Argentina," Paige went on to make the role her own. In the '80s, she starred in hit musicals, CATS and ANYTHING GOES, and topped the U.K. charts with "I Know Him So Well" (1985), a duet with singer Barbara Dickson. She also had chart success with her albums, STAGES (1983) and LOVE HURTS (1985). Paige made her Broadway debut in 1996 with a role in SUNSET BOULEVARD before returning in 2000 to London's West End for THE KING AND I.
