About Eugene Asti

American pianist Eugene Asti attended Mannes College of Music in New York, where he was a student of Jeannette Haien and received his bachelor's and master's degrees. He was awarded a scholarship in 1982 to study at Fontainebleau, where he worked with Gaby Casadesus, Henri Dutilleux, and Claude Helffer. A Fulbright scholarship allowed him to study from 1983 to 1987 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he was a student of Graham Johnson in piano accompaniment. He was also a recipient of the Ferdinand Rauter Memorial Prize at the Richard Tauber Competition, and the Megan Foster Prize at the Maggie Teyte Competition. Asti has accompanied Felicity Lott, Angelika Kirchschlager, Margaret Price, Nancy Argenta, and Elizabeth Connell in recital. He has also performed with Sophie Daneman, Sarah Connolly, Christine Rice, Rebecca Evans, Susan Gritton, Kate Royal, Helene Wold, Sophie Karthäuser, Stephan Loges, James Rutherford, and Jared Holt in broadcasts and recordings for the BBC. He performs regularly with Alison Buchanan as a duo. Asti teaches at the Guildhall School and Trinity College of Music. He has recorded for BIS, Harmonia Mundi, Lawo Classics, EM Records, and Sfz Recordings. ~ Blair Sanderson
