About Harold Lang
b. Harold Richard Lang, 21 December 1920, Daly City, California, USA, d. 26 July 1985, Chico, California, USA. A classically trained dancer, Lang performed with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo and with the American Ballet Theatre. He began a parallel career dancing in the chorus of musical comedies, sometimes on Broadway. Among shows of the 40s in which he appeared are Mr. Strauss Goes To Boston (1945), Three To Make Ready (1946), Look Ma, I’m Dancin’ (1948) and Kiss Me, Kate (1948). It was this Cole Porter show, in which as Bill Calhoun he sang ‘Bianca’, that made Lang’s name. In the 50s he was in Make A Wish (1951), was the lead in a revival of Pal Joey (1952), also performing in the London production, Shangri-La (1956), Ziegfeld Follies (1957), and a revival of On The Town (1959). In the 60s he played Teddy in I Can Get It For You Wholesale (1962) but parts were fewer. In 1970 Lang moved to California where he joined the faculty at California State University in Chico as a dance teacher, remaining there until his death.
