About Ivo Neame
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. One of the best gigs I ever saw was the Joe Zawinul Syndicate at Ronnie Scott's in London in the late 90s. It took several hours to come down after that gig - the band's energy absolutely blew my mind! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Chick Corea, Now He Sings, Now He Sobs Remastered John Coltrane Quartet, Crescent Poncho Sanchez, El Conguero They represent albums that I discovered in my teens and in my 20s. All three were very influential on me for different reasons. I love the timeless quality of Crescent, the dynamic energy of Now He Sings, Now He Sobs and the joy of El Conguero. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “The Rise of the Lizard People” I was particularly happy with they way this tune of mine turned out - it's based on a numerical palindrome that I discovered by chance. I put a lot of effort into recording it completely remotely during the pandemic. I'm proud of this record. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Playing for an audience of 3,000 at Transition Festival in Utrecht with Phronesis and the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra was a highlight. Performing my music with the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra at Stadtgarten, Cologne in '23 was also a thrill. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would like to write and perform more music for large ensembles and to play in new places in different countries. I would like to perform in India and South East Asia more. Getting to play my music in Japan would be a delight.
