In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. In eighth grade, I found an odd tape in my dad's old shoe box: Marlboro Country. This cigarette-company-sponsored compilation featured two songs from Merle Haggard. I popped it in, listened, and suddenly understood what country music could be.
