In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. At the age of about 7 or 8, I attended a Dixieland Jazz Combo performance with my family. Shortly after, I heard my first Oscar Peterson recording, and I was hooked on jazz from that point on! What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Art Tatum, The Art Tatum Solo Masterpieces, Vol. 1 (Original Jazz Classics Remasters) Chick Corea Akoustic Band, Chick Corea Akoustic Band Oscar Peterson, Icon: Oscar Peterson These three albums represent some of my jazz piano heroes. They not only influenced the way I approach the piano, but also the way I listen to music and compose. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Gloria” As a pianist and jazz/Gospel musician, I don't often get to arrange Pop / R&B music. This one was a delight--the extremely talented and versatile female vocalist added just the right amount of sparkle to this tune, and it's a favorite of mine! What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? When I was 19, I had a job with an orchestra that often brought in guest musicians; several of them were jazz artists. Dave Brubeck was on the docket, and I thought I would just watch and learn--but he had me do a live duet with him...I was humbled. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? I would love to score a full-length film, utilizing a studio orchestra and choir.
