Essential Albums
- The keys to this album are John Farnham’s years of experience as both a solo singer and with Little River Band and David Hirschfelder’s rich keyboard textures. The combination still sounds fresh decades later, with Farnham’s voice showcasing incredible range, power, and versatility. His vocals are warm and intense (“Pressure Down”) as well as tender (“A Touch of Paradise”). On standout track “You’re the Voice,” he pulls off a performance that bleeds honesty over soaring synths and bagpipes.

About John Farnham
John Farnham is a legendary Australian pop singer who started as a teen idol in the late ’60s and blossomed into one of the most beloved and successful entertainers in his nation’s history. • Farnham was born in Essex, England, in 1949. He moved with his family to Australia in 1959 and got his start in the bands The Mavericks and Strings Unlimited. • He launched his solo career with the 1967 novelty single “Sadie (Cleaning Lady).” It spent six weeks at No. 1 in Australia, and the subsequent Sadie album went gold. • In 1969, Farnham scored another No. 1 hit with his version of “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head.” Readers of Australia’s TV Week magazine voted Farnham the King of Pop each year from 1969 to 1973. • Farnham replaced Glenn Shorrock as lead singer of the Australian soft-rock group Little River Band in 1982. He sang on the albums The Net (1983), Playing to Win (1985), and No Reins (1986). • His 1986 single “You’re the Voice” peaked at No.1 in Sweden, Germany, and Australia and led to a major comeback for the former teen idol. Released that same year, the album Whispering Jack spent 25 weeks at No. 1 on the Australian charts and has been certified 24-times platinum. It’s the highest-selling album of all time in Australia by a domestic artist. • Farnham went on to top the Australian charts with his next two albums: 1988’s Age of Reason and 1990’s Chain Reaction. • In 2011, Farnham released The Acoustic Chapel Sessions, an unplugged album featuring hits from throughout his career. • Alongside Olivia Newton John, he embarked on the Two Strong Hearts Live tour in 2015. The album Two Strong Hearts Live hit No. 1 in Australia.
