About Merrick Winter
In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. I can remember listening to Eleanor Rigby when I was about five or six. It painted such a vivid picture of the characters, and of suburban England. Their storytelling is seared to my brain. I also loved all the Beatle movies - Help, Yellow Submarine. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Bill Evans, Jim Hall, Undercurrent Crosby, Stills & Nash, Crosby, Stills & Nash The Beatles, The Beatles (The White Album) These records were on all on in my house growing up. I learned most of what I know about songwriting from the Beatles by listening. My mum loved CSN - we'd sing the harmonies in the car, and my dad loved jazz, so it was either Bill Evans or Miles. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Stalemate” Stalemate was recorded live to an 8 track tape machine with my close friend and collaborator Matt Zara. We wanted to capture the way early 70s records made us feel - warm, close, analogue. I was trying to process a relationship as it was ending. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Oh absolutely. I can't wait to release my debut record in 2024. I would also love to collaborate with some of my songwriting heros in my lifetime (and theirs!). Also, I've never been to Japan, so I'd love to play there!
