About Michael Copley
British recorder player Michael Copley is a versatile musician at home in both folk and classical idioms. He has performed in the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Wigmore Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and Carnegie Hall, as well as on tour in Europe, Japan, Canada, and the United States. All of this was done while he was a member of the duo the Cambridge Buskers (later the Classic Buskers), performing on over 30 woodwind instruments, with Ian Moore on accordian. He has also worked at the Pavarotti Music Centre in Mostar, Bosnia, learning about Balkan folk music and traditional Balkan wind instruments. As a classical recorder player, he has appeared as soloist with the English Chamber Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony, and the Academy of Ancient Music. His recordings include Vivaldi's recorder concertos for Deutsche Grammophon and Bach's Brandenburgs with I Musici for Philips. He also performs with lutenist Peter Martin as the duo Sambuca.
