About P-Square
Identical twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye comprised the highly successful Nigerian duo P-Square, known for their smooth, energetic blend of pop, hip-hop, and R&B combined with Michael Jackson-inspired dance moves. • Peter and Paul Okoye got their start as part of an a cappella group while in secondary school in their hometown of Jos, in central Nigeria. They formed P-Square when the rest of the vocal group dispersed to go to college. • In 2001, P-Square won a competition sponsored by a British tobacco company, which funded their first LP, 2003’s Last Nite. • Their second album, 2005’s Get Squared, made P-Square stars in Nigeria. • P-Square’s third album, 2007’s Game Over, is regarded as the brothers’ creative peak. Pulse Nigeria called it “one of the best pop albums in Nigeria over the last decade.” • Following Danger in 2009 and The Invasion in 2011, P-Square signed a deal with the Senegalese American rapper Akon’s Konvict Muzik label. • In 2010, P-Square won Best Group at the MTV Africa Music Awards. • P-Square managed just one more album, 2014’s Double Trouble, featuring contributions from Jermaine Jackson, T.I., and Don Jazzy, before long-simmering internal tensions prompted an acrimonious breakup in 2016.
