Parliament 由 George Clinton 組成，他們與 Funkadelic 一同將 Funk 音樂與根植於六〇年代的迷幻文化結合在一起，打造「P-Funk 王國」。《Mothership Connection》是 Parliament 的第四張專輯，也是 Clinton 首次與 James Brown 的前樂手 Maceo Parker 和 Fred Wesley 合作，將 P-Funk 的概念公諸於世。專輯中，樂團乘著一輛太空船漂流宇宙，口中念著街頭俚語，演奏著具有迷幻色彩的純正 Groove。強勁新穎的節奏、奇特的裝束以及科幻氛圍，在當時掀起了一股「Parliament」式的 Funk 風暴。其中〈P-Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)〉、〈Mothership Connection (Star Child)〉、〈Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker)〉幾首歌更成為 Funk 年代的經典，為往後許多音樂人包括 Dr. Dre 所取樣採用。P-Funk 組合也對之後的 Post-Disco、嘻哈等音樂風格產生深遠影響，此輯所拓展的聽眾群更將 P-Funk 推至前所未有的高度。
