Essential Albums
- The title track of the singer-songwriter’s 2018 EP, cold / mess, was a breakout hit that laid bare an unhappy love’s inner turmoil—and also, famously, found its way onto Barack Obama’s list of his top songs of 2019. This re-release polishes Prateek Kuhad’s signature gossamer indie rock in opener “with you/for you” and layers rich acoustic textures in the faster paced “for your time”. Nobody writes about the decay of a relationship quite like Kuhad, whether on the searingly incisive, gently-strummed guitar ballad “fighter” or the quiet, piano-led ode to unrequited love “100 words”.

About Prateek Kuhad
Prateek Kuhad is an Indian indie-folk artist whose work, in both English and Hindi, has made him one of his country’s most celebrated songwriters. ∙ Although he grew up with Indian pop and Bollywood, Kuhad didn’t get serious about indie music until his college days in New York, where he played his first live show in 2011. ∙ His debut album, 2015’s In Tokens & Charms, earned him a Best Indian Act trophy at the MTV Europe Music Awards. ∙ The Radio City Freedom Awards—which celebrate Indian independent music—named Kuhad Best Pop Artist in 2018 and presented him with two more honors the following year. ∙ “cold/mess,” the title track of his 2018 EP, was included on former President Barack Obama’s Favorite Songs of 2019 playlist.
