About Sébastien Tellier

Sébastien Tellier is an international man of silky electro-pop with a flair for the chic and cinematic. Born in 1975 in the northern French village of Le Plessis-Bouchard, the singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist spent his formative years in Paris, immersed in his musician father’s diverse record collection and the scores of France’s revered film composers. In 1999, Tellier’s synth-baroque soundscapes caught the attention of chill-pop icons Air, who signed him to their Record Makers label. Since then, the polymath and polyglot has followed his border-blurring musical whims, translating vintage and worldly sounds into au courant confections that dabble in sultry chanson, French house, Brazilian rhythms, African beats, and lush electronic arrangements. With widescreen ambitions, Tellier has always been a meticulous composer and shrewd collaborator, bringing in Afrobeat pioneer Tony Allen on 2004’s Politics, Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo on 2008’s Sexuality, and British producer Jam City on 2020’s Domesticated. In between, he’s created several soundtracks for film and TV (including 2007’s Steak (Music from the Motion Picture) and 2017’s A Girl Is a Gun (Music from the Original Series))—his understated synth compositions lending a soft, sensual mystique to both the big and small screen.
