About Shinedoe
In addition to being one of the Netherlands' most popular techno DJs, Shinedoe has an expansive catalog of deeply hypnotic, exploratory tech-house records to her name. Active as a DJ since the mid-'90s, she began releasing her own productions in 2004, the same year she co-founded the successful label Intacto Records. Over the years, her output has evolved from the polyrhythmic minimal techno of 2006's Sound Travelling to the more expansive, sometimes jazzy grooves of 2014's Illogical Directions. Chinedum Nwosu started performing as a dancer when she was 15. She became interested in Detroit techno, Chicago house, and New York garage, and began collecting and spinning records at the age of 19. She started to DJ at clubs in Amsterdam in 1995, and soon became an inescapable presence throughout the Dutch club scene, leading to bookings throughout Europe and Asia. While she additionally spun drum'n'bass for a few years beginning in 1997, she decided to concentrate on techno around 2000. She began organizing the Inmotion parties in Amsterdam in 2001, and performed at Dutch festivals such as Awakenings and Impulz. In 2004, Nwosu released her debut single as Shinedoe, "Dillema," on influential Dutch house label 100% Pure. Immediately earning major support from DJs like Richie Hawtin and Ricardo Villalobos, the record set the stage for dozens of other well-received releases on labels like Intacto Records (which Shinedoe co-founded with 100% Pure's Dylan Hermelijn, aka 2000 & One), Trapez, and Area Remote. Shinedoe's first full-length, Sound Travelling, was released on 100% Pure in 2006, and her first mix CD, Fuse Presents Shinedoe, followed on Music Man in 2007. Remixes for artists such as Terre Thaemlitz and Booka Shade preceded second full-length No Boundaries, a 2009 release on Intacto. Following several singles and EPs on her label, as well as the 2012 Transcendental EP on Get Physical Music and a pair of 2013 tracks on BPitch Control, Shinedoe released her third album, Illogical Directions, in 2014. Lusher and more melodic as well as more experimental than her earlier work, the album included guest vocals by Karin Dreijer (the Knife, Fever Ray) and Miss Bunty. Several more EPs followed, including 2018's Acidploitation (with 2000 & One) and Mutant Frequencies, the first release on Shinedoe's Music That Moves imprint. ~ Paul Simpson
