About Stanley Holloway

After serving in the Connaught Rangers during World War I, Stanley Holloway made his London stage debut in KISSING TIME and received much acclaim for his performance in A MIDSUMMER SUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM on Broadway. Holloway then starred as Alfred P. Doolittle in Lerner and Loewe’s musical MY FAIR LADY, and reprised his role in the 1964 film for which he was nominated for an Oscar. He also starred in a number of post-war Ealing comedies such as PASSPORT TO PIMLICO, THE LAVENDER HILL MOB, and THE TITFIELD THUNDERBOLT; and in more serious pictures such as THIS HAPPY BREED (1944), and BRIEF ENCOUNTER (1945). Holloway was awarded the OBE in 1960, and two years later found fame in America in the television sitcom OUR MAN HIGGINS.
