About Staples Jr. Singers

So reminiscent of the Staple Singers that they took their name from a description used by those who caught their earlier performances, the Staples Jr. Singers were a sibling gospel-soul group from Mississippi who had to wait decades to break out of regional popularity to wider recognition. During their original run, their discography was limited to a couple singles and an album, 1975's When Do We Get Paid, issued by a small gospel label, that captured their emotional energy and gritty, emphatic vocals. The record was rediscovered and reissued by David Byrne's Luaka Bop label in 2022, which led to a reunion of the group and a deeply soulful comeback album, Searching.
