About Stephan Nance

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. My mom often played a song on the piano called Bourbon Street Saturday Night. She’d play the first few notes and pause dramatically, and I’d get so excited and beg her to keep playing. That song made me want to learn to play piano. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Janis Ian, Between the Lines (Remastered) Regina Spektor, Soviet Kitsch The Divine Comedy, Bang Goes the Knighthood Between the Lines and Soviet Kitsch both shaped me musically as a teenager — I loved the storytelling and the intimacy of the recordings. Bang Goes the Knighthood is a more recent discovery — whimsical chamber pop that gives me chills. I’m obsessed. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “Blue Jay” Blue Jay is full of joy and hope. When I practice playing it, it always lifts my mood, especially the instrumental section — there’s just something so satisfying about those chord changes. In the recording, Jackie Coleman’s trumpet makes me swoon.
