About Tha Dogg Pound
Featuring Kurupt and Daz Dillinger, the West Coast hip-hop duo The Dogg Pound found fame as featured guests and headline artists during the ’90s heyday of Death Row Records. • Before they were a duo, Daz and Kurupt both guested on Dr. Dre’s 1992 classic Tha Chronic. By the time they appeared on Snoop Dogg’s 1993 debut, Doggystyle, they’d formally come together as Tha Dogg Pound. • They turned up on Death Row’s soundtracks for numerous ’90s films, including Above The Rim, Murder Was The Case, and Poetic Justice, starring 2Pac. • Their song “What Would You Do?,” off the Murder Was The Case soundtrack, earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. • The momentum led into their 1995 debut album, Dogg Food, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200. • In 1996, Tha Dogg Pound contributed heavily to 2Pac’s All Eyez On Me, the final album released during the rapper’s lifetime. Daz lent his smooth production to the standouts “2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted,” "Ambitionz Az A Ridah,” and "I Ain't Mad At Cha.” • Daz and Kurupt dropped their debut solo albums in 1998 and split up in 2002. The pair beefed for a few years before reuniting for Dillinger & Young Gotti II—credited to D.P.G.—in 2005. • ScHoolboy Q featured Tha Dogg Pound on the slinky “Big Body” off his 2016 Blank Face LP.
