About The Inmates
The strange history of the Chocolate Watchband saw several tracks included on the group's second album that were not actually the Chocolate Watchband, but recordings by entirely different musicians. One of those not-Chocolate Watchbands were the Inmates, not to be confused with the better-known new wave band of the same name from the late '70s and early '80s. These Inmates recorded a mediocre cover of Hank Ballard's 1960 hit "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go" in February 1966 that was unissued at the time. Producer Ed Cobb, however, dug out the track to use as filler on the Chocolate Watchband's second album, The Inner Mystique, overdubbing lead vocals by session vocalist Don Bennett. The backing track of the recording was later issued on the 2005 Chocolate Watchband compilation Melts in Your Brain Not on Your Wrist: The Complete Recordings 1965 to 1967. ~ Richie Unterberger
