About The Raveonettes
Since 2001, the Danish duo of Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo have performed as The Raveonettes, merging girl-group-inspired vocal harmonies and surfy riffing with economic proto-rock, then adding feedback and menace. Vocalist/guitarist Wagner and vocalist/bassist Foo met in Copenhagen after Wagner had tried to find like-minded musicians in the United States. The Raveonettes—Wagner and Foo as well as guitarist Manoj Ramdas and drummer Jakob Hoyer—debuted with the 2002 mini-album Whip It On, a collection of short, sharp tracks written in B-flat minor that included the horror-movie-inspired “Attack of the Ghost Riders”; their first full-length, Chain Gang of Love, lightened the mood, with its songs, including the triumphant “That Great Love Sound,” being written in B-flat major. The Raveonettes’ discography continued a high-concept run throughout the 2000s and 2010s. On 2005’s Pretty In Black, The Raveonettes covered the girl-group classic “My Boyfriend’s Back” and collaborated with artists who had influenced them, including Ronnie Spector and Suicide’s Martin Rev. Lust Lust Lust, released in 2007, ditched most of the analog instruments for drum machines and synthesizers. The band released a few more albums and singles collections, including 2012’s California-inspired Observator and 2014’s harp-accented Pe’ahi, before going on hiatus in 2018. The Raveonettes reformed in 2022 to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of Whip It On.
