Rapper Tsu Surf is primarily known as a battle rapper, but he’s gained crossover notoriety with a string of mixtapes marked by gritty rhymes and hard production. • Repping Newark, New Jersey, Tsu Surf carries on the proud East Coast sound of Jadakiss, Nas, and JAY-Z. • But he’s not anti-West Coast. His 2019 album Blood Cuzzins is a joint project with rising Bay Area rapper Mozzy. • Tsu Surf’s 2014 track “Want It” features a rare verse from NBA star Kevin Durant. • The rapper’s 2020 mixtape MSYKM closes with “Quarantine Tales,” a breathless eight-minute reflection on life in the streets.
