University of Michigan Percussion Ensemble

About University of Michigan Percussion Ensemble

The University of Michigan Percussion Ensemble has a national and international reputation that transcends its university setting. The group is one aspect of the university's percussion program, itself an arm of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. The Percussion Ensemble has a sizable recording catalog; one early appearance was on the album Equilibrium: Border Crossing in 1994. The group also draws on world percussion traditions in its performances and recordings, including on the 1999 album Coyote Dreams. In 2022, the University of Michigan Percussion Ensemble was heard on the album John Luther Adams: Sila - The Breath of the World. That year it performed at the LOUD Weekend, mounted by the New York ensemble Bang on a Can.
