Barry Harris Essentials

Barry Harris Essentials

Traversing straight-ahead bebop and hard bop since the '50s, Barry Harris' career centered around an intoxicating blend of athletic solos, ornate fingering, and tight teamwork. Whether surfing the cool rhythms of his own albums as a bandleader (“Lolita,” “One Down”) or breaking apart meter and creating his own unique movement in solo works (“Hallucinations”), Harris was always refined and sophisticated. The influence of Miles Davis' cool moods and Bill Evans' richly kaleidoscopic harmonies can be heard in his most breathtaking moments (“‘Round Midnight”). Harris died in 2021 at the age of 91.
