One of the key musicians to emerge from Palm Desert’s stoner-rock scene, Brant Bjork founded the influential Kyuss before striking out on his own in the late ’90s. As with his original band, the guitarist cranks out ’70s-inspired hard rock buried underneath mountains of classic fuzz. The sludgy “Controllers Destroyed”, for example, is a testament to the heft of his riffage. At the same time, Bjork has a knack for tweaking the stoner-rock template. On any album, listeners will discover detours through speedy punk rock, jazz-inspired psychedelia or slowly grooving numbers delivered with all the swagger of a grizzled blues musician.
