For much of the 2000's across Thailand, it didn't get smoother than Groove Riders. The soul-pop band, led by charismatic singer Burin Boonvisut, unabashedly adopted the glittering sounds of classic disco—backup singers, crisp piano and chunky bass lines were all on hand. Hits like "Superstar" sounded like Nile Rodgers took an extended Asian vacation. In 2010, the band announced its separation; less than two months later Boonvisut was back to debut his solo work. And his music looks even further back for inspiration, drawing on soulful Motown horn sections and revered, classic '60s pop.
