Djodje has been one of Cape Verde’s most inspiring exponents. His suave, confident vocals drive a seductive mix of Afropop, kizomba and coladeira that has dominated lusophone dance floors. Albums such as 2010’s Check-In—which he also produced—marry lovesick verses with sinuous club beats. Djodje’s various collabs also take him in intriguing directions: he leads an euphorically fast-paced accordion track with local funaná band Ferro Gaita and shares duties with Nigerian dancehall star Patoranking on a piano serenade.
