The members of post-hardcore band Escape the Fate originally found each other on Myspace. They got their first break in 2005, winning a Las Vegas radio contest to open up for Alkaline Trio. Founding singer Ronnie Radke was let go in 2008, after being arrested on drug and battery charges; Craig Mabbitt took his place. The band charged on and was signed by Interscope in 2010, hitting with that year's self-titled album. Another label change to Eleven Seven Music brought Ungrateful in 2013, with "You're Insane" and "One for the Money" evincing a more traditional hard-rock approach.
