The band GA-20 pare the blues down to its bare essentials and add some raw, rock ’n’ roll edge just to push the party to another level. Named, appropriately, after a vintage guitar amp, GA-20 came barreling out of Boston in the late 2010s and quickly earned attention on the East Coast blues scene and beyond with a sound that honors old-school influences like Hound Dog Taylor (to whose tunes they dedicated an entire album) while still feeling utterly of the moment. Their minimalism extends to eschewing bass, letting Matthew Stubbs and Pat Faherty’s deliciously dirty guitars and Tim Carman’s slamming drums build a big, bluesy world all on their own.
