Born in Italy to Tunisian parents, rapper Ghali Amdouni’s music is infused with a cross-cultural identity that extends beyond his origins. Although he raps in Italian with a distinctly disaffected tone, a song like “Pizza Kebab” owes much to the synthesised, pop-tinged stylings of US R&B, while “Happy Days”—which flits from hyperactive rap to a sluggish, lackadaisical chorus—adds a little bit of humour to the occasion. Having first made his name in 2016 with the ominous and arresting “Ninna Nanna”, Ghali has since become one of Italy’s most unique and distinctive voices.
