Formed in 1995 in the hopes of winning a local songwriting competition, Grinspoon went on to become one of the biggest rock bands of their generation. While they gained fame (and won the contest) with an aggressive brand of post-grunge, they evolved toward a more polished rock sound reminiscent of Bush and Deftones. Raucous and unhinged, Grinspoon became a fixture on the live circuit and were nominated for 13 ARIAs, winning Best Rock Album for 2005's Thrills, Kills & Sunday Pills. Despite their humble origins, the band turned out to be favourites among mosh-pit-loving festival-goers.
