Pianist Jan Lisiecki was born in 1995 in Calgary, Canada, but to listen to him play, one might think he was born in early 19th-century Europe. Lisiecki's light touch captures the whimsical, fluttering spirit of Chopin's delicate ornamentation and dreamy harmonies, giving his recordings a feeling of real authenticity. After making his orchestral debut at age 9, Lisiecki recorded a number of intoxicating readings for the Deutsche Grammophon label, including an insightful collection of Chopin's piano concerti. Elsewhere, his Mozart is terrifically playful, and his Schumann seems full of wisdom.
