Born in Spain and schooled in France, Jeanne Mas seemed to split the difference between ABBA and Lene Lovich. The synthesizer-stoked star dominated European dance floors throughout the '80s with catchy melodies and cutting electro-pop beats. Mas' music gradually became more personal and more varied as she dropped her signature goth guise, experimented with country, and eventually circled back to rediscover both rock and her Iberian roots.
