At her most profound—as in "The Wind and the Wolf," from her third solo album, 1990's No Borders—this classically trained pianist/composer gorgeously blends Japanese folk music, jazz improvisation, and New Age synths to evoke nature, the cosmos, and beyond. She also takes restorative side trips amid her many smooth-jazz releases. A South African bassline bubbles under the blithe groove of "After the Rain," and a light-footed Cuban rhythm section joins her for "Casablanca" from 2017's Latin-tinged Journey to the Heart.
