Lianne La Havas’ silky blend of R&B, folk, reggae, and jazz is both comforting and devastatingly candid. The London singer/songwriter gives lightness to love’s biggest letdowns, molding her honeyed vocals around gentle acoustic fingerpicking on “Lost & Found” from her 2012 debut Is Your Love Big Enough? and minimalist soul melodies on “Paper Thin” from her 2020 self-titled third release. In between, La Havas dives deep into her heritage—a mix of Jamaican and Greek that inspired 2015’s Blood and bass-powered grooves like “Green and Gold,” in which she finds that discovering your roots is as powerful as uniting with a lover.
