Tony Colman and Chris Goss, founders of drum 'n' bass label Hospital, arrived as a DJ duo with 1999's Pull the Plug, a jazz-spiked experiment that demonstrated their refusal to conform even within their wild chosen genre. Goss left London Elektricity in 2002, but his partner continues to innovate on their "fast soul music", crafting unctuous breakbeat albums that feel bright, warm and full of emotion. The addition of live instrumentation—strings, flute, double bass—and sleek vocalists help to paint a panoramic and uplifting vision.
