Music City native Matraca Berg was a successful songwriter before launching her solo career. Since her lyrics show a strong female perspective, it's not surprising that artists including Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Dusty Springfield, Patty Loveless, and Deana Carter have all scored with her songs. But so has Kenny Chesney, who hit with “You And Tequila” after Carter recorded it. Berg released her solo debut Lying to the Moon in 1990 and though she's never matched her commercial success as a songwriter, the craft and heart in her work has earned her a devoted cult following.
