Matthew Dear Essentials

Matthew Dear Essentials

Few artists have straddled experimental dance music and indie rock as successfully as Matthew Dear. He emerged in the late '90s as part of a new wave of Detroit artists (and a cornerstone of the Ghostly label) juggling classic techno with German minimalism. With 2007's Asa Breed, he recruited a live band and embraced the influence of art-rockers like Talking Heads and David Bowie, even as his vocals and production techniques grew ever more singular. He continues to release club records as Audion, doling out black-lit, white-knuckled thrills with pounding beats and enormous crescendos.
