One of soca and calypso’s preeminent performers, Trinidad’s Patrice Roberts was still a teenager when her ecstatic 2005 hit “The Islands” made her a mainstay of carnivals and competitions throughout the islands. Her first major triumph came when she won the Road March competition with 2006’s irresistibly energetic “Band of D Year (B.O.D.Y.)”, a duet with Machel Montano that launched their long and extremely fruitful musical partnership. When she’s not busy matching Montano’s high spirits in her appearances with his band, Machel Montano HD, Roberts turns up the heat on hits of her own like 2017’s irresistible “Big Girl Now” and “Toxic Love”, a 2021 duet with Ricardo Drue that’s equal parts sweet and steamy.
