Hip-hop tuga, Portugal’s homegrown rap and hip-hop scene, has a solid and steely voice in rhyme slinger Phoenix RDC. Born in Angola and raised in the suburbs of Lisbon, RDC cut his teeth with Junior Mafia in the mid ‘00s, before stepping out with his solo debut in 2015. He is now one of Portuguese hip-hop’s loudest voices, claiming his throne with 2019’s statement-making album, Melhor Álbum De Hip Hop Português (M.A.D.H.C.P), which translates in English as the “best Portuguese hip-hop album”. Beyond his solo work, a string of guest spots and collaborations prove the versatility of his vision.
