The biggest band in country-fed punkabilly, The Reverend Horton Heat formed in Dallas, Texas, in '85. Taking inspiration from '50s classic rock, the trio's modern take includes big blasting guitars, hand-slapped bass lines, wailing distortion, clever lyrics, and a pleasing dose of punk rock. Though the band practically live on the road, since '90 they've made time to release more than a dozen albums on labels including Sub Pop, Yep Roc, and Victory. Their music also appears in an array of video games, including Guitar Hero II and Guitar Hero Smash Hits.
