Major themes and discussion points: - Stablecoins for payments and remittances was the main focus, followed by integration into embedded finance and DeFi - Booming region in crypto adoption, highly fragmented and no current VC is solving access to founders in the region - US and international tensions (Asia and Middle East) have created an abundance in demand for Foreign Direct Investments in the region - Geographical diversification coupled with resources and highly skilled talent has made LATAM a new international hub for investments - Near-shoring, higher quality of living, governments attracting digital nomads, are friendlier tech laws positively reconfiguring the region - Emerging markets have led and continue to lead blockchain adoption in financial and consumer services. 🚀 ⭐ These factors forging new paradigm shifts in Latin America and emerging markets will only continue to drive innovation, open competition, and drive inclusion. This creates a dire need for competition, influence and access in the Latin America region. Wenia , a digital asset company under Colombia’s Bancolombia Group, has partnered with Chainlink Labs to integrate the Proof of Reserve (PoR) mechanism into its #Colombian #Peso “COPW” #stablecoin. This collaboration aims to provide transparent verification of the hashtag #Colombian #Peso reserves that back the #stablecoin. The integration of #Chainlink’s Proof of Reserve into hashtag #Wenia’s operations allows real-time verification that each issued COPW is backed by a corresponding amount of Colombian Pesos. To prevent the issuance of more coins than there are reserves—a scenario known as infinite mint attacks—Wenia has also arranged for third-party audits by the firm Harris & Trotter Digital Assets Limited In 2023, the crypto market in Colombia grew significantly, with stablecoins accounting for 31% of all cryptocurrency transactions.
