Why should you worry about gouge resistance in your HDD installation? In the world of mechanical protection of pipelines and anticorrosion coatings, gouging is one of the most catastrophic scenarios due to the challenging soil conditions encountered in directional drilling. ScarGuard provides unparalleled mechanical protection against gouge that may result from severe trenchless projects. To show the value ScarGuard provides, a cost-benefit analysis was conducted to compare the cost of a typical HDD project. Repulling 3800’/1158m of 20” OD Pipe after damage to FBE caused by HDD. Cost difference between repair/repulling versus initial ScarGuard application: almost $1M.
