𝟭,𝟯-𝗕𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗲 is a colorless, flammable gas with a mild gasoline-like odor and the chemical formula C₄H₆. It consists of a four-carbon chain with two double bonds and is widely used as a monomer in producing synthetic rubber (like styrene-butadiene rubber used in tires) and plastics such as ABS. 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐫𝐝 Acts as a volatile organic compound (VOC) contributing to the formation of ground-level ozone (smog) when reacting with nitrogen oxides in sunlight. Spills or leaks can lead to localized water contamination, posing risks to aquatic life despite its low water solubility. Classified as a 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝟏 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 by the IARC, indicating it poses significant cancer risks with prolonged exposure. Chronic exposure can lead to reproductive and developmental effects in humans and animals. 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝 At ALS Malaysia, for the purpose of achieving low-level detection, it is recommended to use EPA TO-17 as the sampling and analysis method for 1,3-butadiene and other VOCs. This method utilizes thermal desorption tubes and analysis by TD-GCMS. #VOC #AirQuality #Butadiene #LabAnalysis #Environment
