MedTech Dive tapped two ECRI subject matter experts for this article on AI trends to watch: Scott Lucas, ECRI’s vice president of device safety, and Francisco Rodríguez Campos M.Sc. Ph.D., MRSO (MRSC™), an ECRI principal project officer. AI tools that may only be used for administrative purposes, hospitals should still treat with the same scrutiny as other AI devices… “At the end of the day, the software, while it may not be doing diagnosis directly, is a big part of what a physician would use to come out with a diagnosis,” Rodríguez Campos said. “They are having an influence in the delivery of health.” Scott Lucas raised concerns about a confluence of factors in AI: The hype, the promise and the rapid evolution of AI tools, and an environment where there are “far too many preventable incidents” in healthcare. Whether hospitals have AI solutions, or can monitor and govern them, can “range quite a bit depending on the resources of the facility,” Lucas said. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gJAcdTe6
MedTech Dive asked experts how they are thinking about #AI in medical devices going into 2025. They discussed new #FDA guidances, a growing focus on foundation models and administrative tools, payment challenges, and the need for hospitals to validate AI models before deploying them. https://lnkd.in/gJAcdTe6
AI in medtech is taking off. Here are 4 trends to watch in 2025.

From scheduling and billing to EHRs and radiology systems, many critical tools are provided by outside vendors. While this arrangement offers many benefits, it also introduces risks—cybersecurity incidents affecting third-party vendors can disrupt access to essential systems, delay care, and put patients at risk.
