The SelectUSA Webinar: Investment Opportunities in the U.S. Aerospace Market was recently held, organised by the U.S. Commercial Service in collaboration with NAICO Malaysia and the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Association (MAIA) as co-organisers. This event highlighted the strength of international partnerships and provided valuable insights into the U.S. aerospace sector. The webinar emphasised significant opportunities for Malaysian companies in areas such as Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services and fixed-wing aircraft components, driven by advancements in AI and digital tools. These collaborations play a pivotal role in strengthening Malaysia’s aerospace ecosystem and enhancing its global supply chain competitiveness. Aligned with the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint (MAIB 2030), such initiatives aim to position Malaysia as a global aerospace hub. With RM4.87 billion in aerospace exports this year, Malaysia continues to progress toward sustainable growth and innovation in the aerospace industry. UAV Drone Prototype Workshop 2024: Avionics Component Integration Malaysia MADANI Dear connections, on the 14th and 15th December, the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Students' Association (MAESA) under the Drone Club, in collaboration with Kelab Remaja Udara Malaysia (KRUM) have successfully organised this workshop for school students, sponsored by Suruhanjaya Kebangsaan UNESCO Malaysia (SKUM). A total of 60 students from 11 schools comprises of 5 different states have participated in this event. This programme focuses on delivering knowledge about Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) aerodynamics and avionics integration to school students. The programme aims to teach about the basic fundamentals on fixed wing UAV application. Avionics plays a key role for UAV application in global industries. As part of the mission in the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030 (MAIB 2030), to enhance unmanned mobility technologies , the implementation on both structures and avionics helps the students to learn and appreciate electronics usage on flight controls (i.e. rudders, elevators, ailerons). These basic fundamentals will develop a creative thinking for the students to design their own avionics model on a prototype. Session includes: Session 1: Introduction to Flight and Drones✈️ Session 2: Introduction to Avionics💡 Session 3: Demonstration and Simulation Tour🖥 Session 4: Practical Prototyping Workshop🔧 Session 5: Flight Test🛫 Six months preparation have developed the confidence of the facilitators. for delivering and contributing the knowledge to the students. A module was given to the students by groups together with their respective prototype kits. During the practical session, the students participated actively by engaging with the facilitators for further understanding. Most importantly, the students can built their own UAV. As the leading director of the program, a huge thanks to the facilitators and committees for making this wonderful program a success. I would like to express my gratitude to Dr Nur Azam Abdullah , Dr Muhammad Hanafi Azami , Dr Amelda Dianne, Dr. Hanan Mokhtar and Dr WAN LUQMAN HAKIM WAN A HAMID for assisting the facilitators from the preparation till the end of the program. Back in Kuala Lumpur for a quick break and managed to squeeze in some work, as per usual! Engaged in fruitful discussions with friends from the French Embassy, Jean-François A. and Michel Cywinski, regarding upcoming collaborations with Malaysia over nasi campur at the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). In Kuala Lumpur, alongside my colleagues, we shared the potential of Malaysia as an MRO hub in Asia Pacific with François-Xavier Lucereau from SECAMIC . I also learned a great deal from Izmir Yamin of Independence-X Aerospace on unmanned space transport for the biotech, semiconductor, and hydrogen industry, a current development of theirs. Overall, it was a rewarding visit before the start of 2025.
