Ombudsman for Financial Services (OFS), [formerly known as Financial Mediation Bureau] was incorporated on 30th August 2004 and commenced its operations on 20th January 2005. OFS is the operator of the Financial Ombudsman Scheme (FOS) approved by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) pursuant to the Financial Services Act 2013 and the Islamic Financial Services Act 2013. The FOS was launched on 1 October 2016. OFS is a non-profit organisation and functions as an alternative dispute resolution channel to resolve disputes between our Members who are the financial service providers (FSPs), licensed or approved by BNM and financial consumers. OFS provides independent, fair, efficient, and effective dispute resolution to financial consumers. Our service is FREE for all financial consumers (Individuals and SMEs). Our Vision Improving financial services and promoting confidence in our financial system. Our Mission: We are committed to provide an independent, trusted, efficient and quality alternative dispute resolution service to financial consumers and financial service providers. Banks in Malaysia will soon roll out malware shielding, a feature that detects high-risk malware and suspicious remote access. Malware shielding prevents unauthorised transactions and protects customers’ funds from malware scams. This will be embedded within the mobile banking apps, and users with compromised devices will be temporarily restricted from accessing banking apps. https://lnkd.in/gVHHrgM3

In 2023, the predominant nature of complaints within the banking/payment systems sector pertained to unauthorised online transactions from financial scams. Instances of mis-selling insurance products, falsely marketed as savings, also constituted a notable portion of the reported disputes. Whereas disputes with insurance companies and takaful operators often stem from claim rejections due to non-compliance with policy/certificate terms, non-disclosure/misrepresentation in the proposal/application form and policy/certificate exclusion.
