We are an independent, non-profit research and archive institution dedicated to the past Prime Ministers of Malaysia.

Perihal kami

Perdana Leadership Foundation was chartered in January 2003 as a non-profit organisation, founded with gifts from people who supported the vision of a thriving research and learning institution dedicated to the study of Malaysian leadership and nation-building. It is unique in the sense that it began as an entirely private sector initiative, seed-funded and organised by private sector individuals and corporations. Most of the Foundation’s present trustees were the early benefactors of this Foundation. The Foundation’s physical home in Precinct 8, Putrajaya, was completed in October 2003. The stately building now houses the Perdana Library, an auditorium as well as a multi-purpose hall in addition to the office of the Foundation’s Honorary President and 4th & 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. A tax-exempt, non-profit organisation, the Foundation intends to become the premier institution for the study of Malaysia’s Prime Ministers and the central resource centre for research into national stewardship as well as a platform for reflection, debate, and discussion with distinguished figures in Malaysian leadership.

  • "A closer look at the past two decades will also reveal that many of the revolutionary changes were driven by technology. From the rise of smartphones in 2007 that changed the way we live, to the growth of shale oil in 2014 that triggered one of the largest oil price shocks in history, to the mighty rise of numerous tech brands like Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Huawei. The common denominator was technology. Technology will continue to change the way we do things and we risk being left behind if we do not change as well. On the other hand, they offer new, exciting challenges as well as immeasurable opportunities if we are capable of embracing them." Speech by YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamad, at The Launching Ceremony Of The 5G Malaysia Demonstration Projects (5GDP) on 19 January 2020 (Sunday), at Langkawi International Convention Centre. • “My real birthday is 10th July 1925, but my father registered all his male children as born in December. Since the Malayan school year began in January, this avoided any hassles to do with age when registering for entry. This is why my registered birth date is 20 December, making me slightly younger than my real age." (An Excerpt of Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad's autobiography "A Doctor in the House.") Going by his official record, 20th December marks the registered birthday of Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, the 9th child of Kolej Sultan Abdul Hamid headmaster, Mohamad bin Iskandar, and Wan Tempawan binti Wan Hanafi. We wonder if the early start in school gave Tun a competitive edge for the rest of his life! As the fourth (1981-2003) and seventh (2018-2020) Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir transformed the nation into a modern and industrialised economy, and created world-class physical infrastructure such as the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), PETRONAS Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), and the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC). Under Tun Dr Mahathir’s leadership, Malaysia became one of the prosperous and dynamic economies in Southeast Asia, with a thriving business sector and growing middle class. May Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad remain strong in both body and spirit, and keep inspiring us to hone our competitive edge in work and life. • "The youthful exuberance helps reminds us of the energy we used to have in pursuing our ideals which were not much different than what your ideals are today. In short, you are what we were for, five decades ago. Hence it is important for leaders to keep close to the youths. Having said that, the youths are capable of destruction and carnage especially if they are misguided by wrong values and ideals. The world has witnessed some youths committing horrific, inhumane crimes that is beyond human comprehension." • 50 Outstanding Malaysian Sportspersons Khoo Kay Kim & Selina Khoo Book Excerpt: "Sports in the country, until the 1950s, benefited immensely from the presence and the visits of a multitude of outstanding sportsmen from various countries. Local sportsmen too had opportunities to gain external exposure. From the outset, Malaysian sport was never parochial although for many years much of the external influence was derived largely from Britain. It was Britain that first infused passion into the locals at the school level as well as among adults, especially government servants, who were encouraged tp form recreation clubs all over the country." • “Malaya, on becoming independent, had of course to change this approach. We in Malaya are engaged in building a nation of three main races stemming from three great cultures, and if we are to achieve this, it is essential that the youth of our country, and the adults too, must think of themselves as Malayans, and not as previously of themselves as Malays, Chinese, Indians, etc. The educational system therefore must be keyed to national unity, and this unity in turn is integrated with the development of the national language. No one in Malaya disagrees with those basic principles, and we are all convinced, given good heart and goodwill, that it can be done, that we can create a national Malayan culture.” An excerpt of Tun Abdul Razak's speech at the Opening of the Educational and Cultural Display for the Asian Regional Conference of the World Confederation of Organisations of the Teaching Profession, Chin Woo Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, 25th April, 1960. • In Memory of Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, and the longest-serving President of the Asian Football Confederation   Today on the 6th of December, we remember the life and death of our nation’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman. Tunku Abdul Rahman was known for being our country’s Father of Independence, the sobriquet in recognition of his immense efforts from the early days of struggle in establishing UMNO and obtaining electoral wins, all the way to securing independence from the British.   One of his contributions that is less well-known is his involvement in the footballing world not just in Malaysia but also in Asia. Tunku Abdul Rahman first got involved in the local football scene when he was appointed as the Vice President of the Kedah Football Association (KFA) after he returned from Cambridge in the 1930s. In 1949, the Selangor Football Association called upon his service, and he served as its President for two years.   A decade later, and in an independent Malaya, Tunku Abdul Rahman led the Football Association of Malaya (FAM). During the two decades of his tenure at FAM, Tunku introduced competitions for the under-18 category, namely the FAM Cup and the Rahman Cup and created the Pestabola Merdeka (Merdeka Tournament), which debuted in August 1957. The tournament, once nicknamed “The Old Lady of Asia”, hosted top teams from other footballing nations such as South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, and others. Malaysia was the most successful participant of the tournament, having won 11 times since its inception. Tunku's work with FAM, as well as the success of the Merdeka Tournament, led to him being invited to become the fifth President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), a post he served with distinction for 19 years. As the first President of AFC from outside Hong Kong, Tunku managed to apply his diplomatic skills along with his passion for football to the AFC, elevating the stature and influence of the AFC. His contributions to regional football  symbolised his sportsmanship and belief in sports as a unifying force. May Tunku rest in peace.
