🌍 Two days ago, our Studio Birthplace music film Earth Defender with Novo Amor, premiered with Extreme Hangout at #COP29. Yesterday, it went online and has already hit 400K views on Instagram. It can also be watched on youtube: https://lnkd.in/gs7mMteR But it was today's screening that really moved me. After the screening, a beautiful, strong Indigenous woman from South America came on stage. She shared that she had just lost her uncle, also an Earth Defender, much like the story portrayed in the film. “Now that my uncle died I have to become the new Earth Defender. This our story.” The translator couldn’t hold back tears. Indigenous Peoples are the wisdom keepers, living in deep harmony with the land, the water and their ancestors. While we take and rob, they safeguard 80% of our planet's biodiversity. We need to protect our protectors. We have so much work ahead, and so much to learn from them. 🪶 This is why I make films. Today, I had the chance to attend the "Innovative Storytelling for Our Planet" session at COP29 Azerbaijan Green Zone. Being in the experience areas within COP really broadens my perspective, offering me new insights. NEW WORK: World On Fire Episode 3 for Greenpeace Brazil’s agricultural support system reveals a troubling inequity: large agribusinesses receive the majority of government resources and assistance, while smallholder farmers receive minimal support. Worsening this imbalance, fires—often ignited by medium and large farms—cause severe damage to the land, climate, and surrounding communities. 🔥 “The powerful have dominated everything, and destroyed everything. Let’s fight until the end to save our world and to save nature.”🔥 In this episode, we meet Mr. Nene, a smallholder farmer who has adopted agroecological practices to help regenerate the land. Despite family farmers like Mr. Nene comprising 75% of Brazil’s rural establishments, only 15% of them can access government-backed credit, while 84% goes to large agribusinesses, according to Plano Safra. Mr. Nene demonstrates that sustainable food production is possible without degrading the land.
