Great News for Malaysian SMEs and MTCs! The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and the Securities Commission Malaysia  have launched the Strategic Co-Investment Fund (CoSIF) under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030).  With a total of RM131.5 million, this fund will be distributed through Equity Crowdfunding (ECF) and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) platforms to support SMEs and mid-tier companies in strategic sectors like Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), Electric Vehicles (EV), Renewable Energy (RE) and Advanced Materials. The roadmap also includes the release of the Capital Market Starter Pack and a Simplified Pitching Guide, developed in collaboration with 1337 Ventures , to help businesses present their growth potential to investors. Malaysia's IPO market has seen exceptional growth in 2024! What could this mean for the Equity Crowdfunding (ECF) industry? Key highlights include: • 55 listings on Bursa Malaysia, the highest since 2006, compared to 32 in 2023 • Total IPO funds raised reached US$1.7 billion, the highest since 2017 • Market capitalization achieved US$7.2 billion, more than double the previous year and the highest since 2013 • The ACE Market dominated with 40 listings, the highest since its inception in 2009 • There have been encouraging oversubscription rates, with some IPOs seeing rates of over 300 times! • 5 out of the top 10 IPOs in Southeast Asia were from Malaysia in 2024 Positive economic indicators, political stability, and strong investor participation, especially from foreign investors, have bolstered the IPO market. Industry Analysis: • Industrial Products led in the number of IPOs, followed by Consumer, Energy & Resources, and Technology, Media & Telecommunication • The Consumer, Energy & Resources, and Industrial Products sectors raised the most IPO funds • The largest IPOs in 2024 and 2023 came from the consumer industry • The IPO share price of ACE Market IPOs has increased on average by 46% from its IPO offer price, which is indicative of the success of the ACE Market IPOs and investor confidence in these companies • 73% of the IPOs from the Main and ACE Markets are trading at a premium to their IPO offer price. The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) has updated its Registered Market Operators (RMO) guidelines, increasing the investment limit for retail investors on Equity Crowdfunding (ECF) platforms from RM5,000 to RM10,000 per issuer! This change, effective immediately, aims to boost retail investor participation in the Equity Crowdfunding market, creating more opportunities to support and invest in high-potential startups. 💡 Key update: ✅ New retail investor limit per issuer: RM10,000 (previously RM5,000) ✅ Aggregate investment limit: RM50,000 per year (unchanged) This is a positive step forward for Malaysia’s investment ecosystem!
